My First Pixel Art

Let’s get this out of the way… I don’t have very much artistic talent. I’ve been into music my whole life and can at least somewhat play a bunch of instruments, but drawing?

Drawing is something that I’ve always wished I could be good at. I’ve always dreamed that I had some artistic capabilities outside of music, but those wishes never came true. It wasn’t until recently that I decided I wanted to actually give it a shot.

I started researching types of digital art via YouTube and Twitch, and that’s how I discovered pixel art… so I decided to give it a try.

I wish I could explain the creative process that went behind deciding what to draw as my very first piece of pixel art ever, but I honestly have no idea. After hours of messing around with a program I bought on a whim (the program is Aseprite, and I may make a post about it separately), I finally came up with this…

A tiny… little… blue and purple… seahorse.seahorsejumpbig

How? I don’t know!

Why? Not a clue!

To be honest, I’ve never thought much about seahorses. Sure, they’re cute, but I’ve never considered them to be something of interest to me. It just sort of happened.

So why am I telling you this, and why should you care? Well, there are a few things that I want you to take from this post. Consider this a TL/DR:

  1. I have no artistic abilities.
  2. I have no interest in seahorses.
  3. Despite those things, I drew something that I’m extremely proud of and happy with to this day.

There’s this old, overused saying:

“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t… you’re right.”

– Henry Ford

If there’s something you’ve always wanted to try, do yourself a favour, and actually try.

Much love.
